Internship
Long Hungry Creek Farm is one of the oldest and largest organic and biodynamic farms in Tennessee. The 260-acre farm holds beautiful woodlands and pasture, with the Long Hungry Creek winding its way through the land. The farm is located in Middle Tennessee in historic Red Boiling Springs 70 miles northwest of Downtown Nashville.
Human labor invested in the products and process of nature creates the farm’s bountiful productive wealth. The land supports an appropriate-sized herd of cattle on pasture land, vibrant fields growing over 80 varieties of vegetables and a diversified ecosystem that in turn supports the surrounding CSA’s and local food movement.
We hold local, regional and national conferences, workshops, events focused on local food, fermentation, alternative healing, music, massage, biodynamic agriculture, and love of place as a community gathering space. Our regular staff is a small circle of friends who support and are supported by community.
Internship work will include monotonous fieldwork, education in biodynamic preparations and practices, regenerative holistic management of fields, market gardening, community outreach and living and working with the rhythms of the day and season. Hoeing, planting, weeding, harvesting, carrying heavy things, getting very dirty, setting up for events, harvesting, building, listening, observing, attending to anything that comes up, fence maintenance, equipment repair, and more…
We offer all you can eat biodynamic food, swimming in the creek, multiple on-farm education and entertainment events and varied sleeping accommodation options. Interns are fully immersed in the farm; long days filled with physical labor in all weather is the life. Successful candidates should be committed to sustainable agriculture, regenerative land management, and community involvement and also have experience in physically demanding work.
We require a two-week trial period to ensure it is a good fit for everyone. Own transportation preferred, driver’s license required.
